In 2018, TenantBase spoke with entrepreneur Lindy Werges about entrepreneurship, supporting women and minorities in business, and what led to her decision on new Los Angeles office space for three companies she ran at the time.

How did Lindy come to run three businesses at once?

After more than a decade with global firms in accounting and finance, Lindy and her husband Tom began seeing opportunities that led them toward owning and operating three separate companies. The first, Slinger Straps, grew out of a personal need: Tom's degenerative disc disease made a traditional guitar strap painful to play with, so he invented an ergonomic alternative for himself, then realized other guitarists dealing with the same condition, sometimes called "guitar shoulder," needed the same solution. A second product followed when Lindy created a tiered yoga strap to help a friend progress in her practice, which became its own company, Zen Yoga Strap, launched in April 2016 after demand from local yoga instructors.

What was Integritas Resources?

Between launching Slinger Straps in 2012 and Zen Yoga in 2016, Lindy decided to combine her own passions into a company of her own, launching Integritas Resources in the summer of 2016, an executive search, recruitment, and staffing firm specializing in finance and accounting. She ran the business alongside a commitment to supporting women-owned businesses, minority-owned businesses, and under-resourced teen education, drawing on her background in accounting and finance.

Why did all three companies share one office?

All three businesses were housed under one roof and staffed together. When it came time to find new space, Lindy wanted something that could support both sides of the operation. "We wanted to be sure to find something with the creative space to support the ecommerce side with the professionalism of an executive search and staffing company," she said. The search began through online property search engines, which is how she came in contact with TenantBase and her advisor, Andrea Bartalsky.

What made the search process work well?

"Andrea asked the right questions to ensure that we were going to find the right spot for our businesses," Lindy said. The process was genuinely collaborative: Lindy would send spaces she'd found, and Andrea would respond quickly with feedback. "There was a trust created that Andrea was interested in the heart of our businesses."

Andrea highlighted several options, but one stood out for its service-oriented management and available space. "Based on the type of service the building management and landlord offered, I knew this would be a great space for Lindy and her team," Andrea said. The building offered full service and an open-air courtyard running through its center, and had gone fully solar five years earlier to help offset tenant costs.

How did the new space fit the team?

"We'll really have the room now to grow," Lindy said after moving in. The space was one large open room, supporting the collaborative approach Lindy and her husband took across all three companies.
